Jinan Key Areas: Urban Color Design

Creating a Colorful Narrative for Jinan's Key Urban Areas

Inspired by the color gene of traditional architecture in Jinan and the color symbols of human history, the designers established the urban color keynote of "warm autumn color formed by variation of ancient charm color, new bright color deduced by water color brilliance" for the key areas. They meticulously crafted an exclusive architectural color system that reflects Jinan's local significance and creates a captivating color environment.

The project's strength lies in its hierarchical and classified urban color planning strategies. The designers formulated guidelines and plans for the overall color environment of the key areas, taking into account the urban spatial structure and functional attributes. They also designed the urban color image of the core section along the key area's core axis, ensuring a harmonious and visually striking architectural color image.

To realize their vision, the designers employed spatial color planning techniques, guiding the distribution and change of hue, lightness, and chroma throughout the urban space. They also developed guidelines for building materials that complement the recommended colors, enhancing the implementation of the recommended color schemes.

The city color planning and design in the key areas of Jinan covers an extensive area of 32.9 square kilometers, with the core area spanning 8.66 square kilometers. The designers dedicated 8.3 square kilometers to the key area, ensuring a comprehensive and impactful color transformation.

Through their meticulous research and analysis, the design team identified the color characteristics unique to Jinan's key areas. They extracted the urban color recommendation chromatography exclusive to the area and formulated urban color strategy planning guidelines. By leveraging the expressive power of color, they enhanced the morphological characteristics of the buildings and shaped the distinctive identity of the key areas.

The Jinan Key Areas: Urban Color Design project successfully weaves together the rationality and sensibility of color, creating a symbolic color environment that captures the charm of Jinan's key urban areas. It serves as a testament to the designers' dedication to optimizing the city's color environment and telling the story of Jinan through the language of color.

This exceptional design project was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the City Planning and Urban Design category in 2021. The award recognizes the project's well-designed, practical, and innovative approach, meeting professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.
